Campaign Quencher: Coca-Cola vs. Dr. Pepper

Seeing as how Coca-Cola seems to have one of the most successful advertising and marketing content creators in the world, this one's going to be a tough one, but I think I've got something they've yet to do! Wanna hear it? Okay, here we go!

The Idea: The Boundless Coke

Now the name might seem a little plain at first, but hear me out!  So we're all well and familiar with Coca-Cola's naming theme going on their products where names are printed on their cans or bottles as a sort of Personalization initiative.  My idea is to do something similar, perhaps even joined together with their already existing theme.  We would have Coca-Cola's fan/customer base submit requests for names and a slight introduction of themself as well as a location around the world, and likewise in that part of the world, other people will do the same.  Now when people happen to choose each other's countries, they get matched, and the bottles are then sent to Coca-Cola determined pairs where they receive the custom bottles and their mini stories/introductions on them!  

Who is the audience you may ask?

My target audience is anyone that drinks Coca-Cola! That's the beautiful thing about this idea, it's not restricted to any particular age group!

Goals

In creating bonds, and potential friendships throughout the world, we achieve one of Coca-Cola's main goals and objectives as a company, to spread happiness worldwide without any potential barriers!  In doing so we bring attention to Coca-Cola from all over the globe, who knows we might even be asked to do something United Nations related!

Launch

Because this is a world wide campaign, Coca-Cola would need some time to prepare themselves for the mass onslaught of entries submitted worldwide! Not to mention getting the word out, because of this I would aim for a launch to be conducted at the beginning of next year, 2017!

Social Strategy

Our social strategy would start with Coca-Cola's biggest and most successful social media platforms, ones that have the greatest world wide coverage.  Due to these factors, I believe their Facebook page, and YouTube page would be the best suitors for this type of Campaign!  In doing so, Coca-Cola will be able to spread the word in a very successful way seeing as how their following on both of these platforms stretches worldwide!

Attraction, Acquisition, and Engagement

This campaign will attract Coca-Cola's customer base world wide due to people's innate interest in different cultures around the world.  Thinking about travelling to a certain country? This would be the perfect step in getting to know that country from a personal level of someone already living there! Not to mention the vast field of potential connections one can make along the way!

Coca-Cola seems to be putting a huge amount of emphasis on their YouTube account, and a good thing they are too! They post a lot of the time about different promotions and such they have going on all around the world!Dr. Pepper seems to be a little lacking when it comes to their YouTube account, especially in comparison to Coca-Cola!  They seem to post a majority of the time when it comes to special events, or promotions that they are involved with

They both seem to post about not only their own products, but also other events and such that relate to themselves as a company as well.

Coca-Cola seems to take their YouTube channel super seriously! Posting little inspirational and motivational videos sometimes hourly! It really gets things moving with their customer base, although Dr. Pepper's channel was a success as well, it not nearly to the degree of Coca-Cola!

This victory can almost solely be attributed to the fact that Dr. Pepper seems to have completely neglected their Google+ account! Oh-no! Despite this, Coca-Cola seemed to be on top of their stuff when it came to Google+, however the fact that they haven't really posted in a while, it seems they updated their account with a simple picture and hashtag fairly recently on Jan 19 of this year! Here's to hoping they revive their Google+ account soon!

Hey guys! I'm here to once again introduce Coca-Cola vs. Dr. Pepper to our well known Soda Social Showdown! In this post I will be going over a few key points between these two soft drink giants' Twitter accounts!

Coca-Cola posts a lot of photos that tend to show some sort of Coca-Cola product, they also tend to post a few little text posts relating to any news and such that has to do with Coca-Cola.  They've taken to posting quite a few little videos or gifs relating to Coca-Cola.   Dr. Pepper once again seems to be a lot more involved when it comes to their tweets, tweeting to specific states asking for opinions or inputs from their customer base.

This tweet is successful because it involves a very anticipated movie that is very popular, at the same time the video itself is of comedic value that genuinely brings joy to people. Perhaps the most important reason behind this tweets success is the fact that it is a pinned tweet, meaning if you visit the Coca-Cola twitter, this is the first tweet you will see no matter what.

A major reason this tweet is attributed as a success when compared to its other tweets is because of the fact that it's in relation to a very anticipated movie that Dr. Pepper happens to have a partnership with. People are interested in the movie, and therefore are interested in the drink

The results are in! And it seems the winner for this round of Twitter Showdown is...

Coca-Cola!!!
It seems that their vastly greater following came in handy in this round of Soda Social Showdown, they managed to take great advantage of their customer base and used it to put themselves ahead!

Coca-Cola posts a lot of photos showing some sort of Coca-Cola product, they also tend to post a few little text posts relating to any news and such that has to do with Coca-Cola.   Dr. Pepper seems to be a lot more involved when it comes to their Facebook page, posting a lot of promotional content with partners, or advertising some little prize codes on some of their products.

No, they don't really link anything besides their own products and other things relating to their products. No, similarly to Coca-Cola, Dr. Pepper doesn't really post anything other than their own products, or partnerships they have with companies paired with them.

Dr. Pepper's Social Media competition!



Dr. Pepper is currently present on a number of Social media platforms, just like Coca Cola, they only advertise having 4 social media platforms, these being: Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram.  After a quick google search, it’s noted that there are Dr. Pepper presences on other platforms, however these aren’t officially handled by Dr. Pepper the company themselves, and are generally instead fan-made/run.  Since Dr. Pepper is only present on 4 social media platforms, I will choose these 4 that Coca-Cola is also present on for comparison.  

Dr. Pepper is very prevalent on Facebook, they currently have a total of 14.9 million likes at the time of writing, and post every few days.  They tend to post a lot of advertisements regarding their wide variety of flavours and such, and in doing so communicate well with their customer base who comment on their photos and posts in the form of replies to whatever they may need, or inquire about.  For example Dr. Pepper's latest post was on March 5th about a certain pairing they are doing with certain bottles of Dr. Pepper and prize incentives on a Blippar App, the image posted displayed a Dr. Pepper Cherry flavour which one intrigued customer duly commented on stating she hasn't been able to find any bottles of this flavour in which Dr. Pepper responded with interest in helping her sort out her issue.  
Dr. Pepper has quite a large following on Twitter as well, raking in an impressive 403 thousand followers at the time of writing.  They Tweet almost every day as well, tending to relate most if not all of their tweets to Dr. Pepper products, for example one of their last tweets was asking for participation from their followers in letting them know if they've been craving Dr. Pepper recently or not.




Surprisingly, Dr. Pepper only has about 8.9 thousand subscribers on their YouTube channel.  They seem to only post YouTube videos around the same time as any big events they are involved with, the last being a College Football event where they posted a couple commercials that were aired during the same time as the event.  With the up and coming Batman Vs. Superman movie coming out which Dr. Pepper seems to be endorsing, I feel like it won't be very long before they release another string of videos involving Dr. Pepper the drink and the two super heroes in some way.
  
Dr. Pepper's Instagram page has a nice 253 thousand followers and seems to post every few to other days, most if not all images relating back to their beverages in some way or another.  Recently a few of their posts are circulating the upcoming Batman Vs. Superman movie.  






To conclude about this Soft Drink giant, it seems Facebook is their most successful social media platform by a landslide with a whopping nearly 15 million likes, the second being Twitter with roughly 400 thousand followers, not too far behind in third is Instagram with around 250 thousand followers, and in last place, with a very surprising number of essentially 9 thousand subscribers is their YouTube channel.  Despite the lower numbers in their YouTube channel, it seems Dr. Pepper has a massive following on Social Media and seems to be doing a fine job with their current strategy. Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper - Showdown of the century!

What could be more refreshing than a nice Cola on a scorching hot day? Not much compares right?

That's what Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper were thinking when they decided to market themselves the way they do.  They recognized a need and desire belonging to their customer base, and addressed it expertly.

In this post I will be talking about the differences between Coca-Cola, and one of it's main competitors, Dr. Pepper.


First off I'll be talking about Coca-Cola.  This soft drink industry giant began in a pretty peculiar way; with the curiosity of a very inventive pharmacist back in 1886.  Dr. John S. Pemberton, an Atlantan pharmacist blended together a series of ingredients to come up with a flavoured syrup that he and some local pharmacists mixed with carbonated water, it was then deemed "excellent" by those who sampled it, it was then Pemberton had some input from his Bookkeeper Frank M. Robinson who is credited with coming up with the name, and infamous subscript still used in Coca-Cola's logo today, and thus creating the infamous Coca-Cola soft drink we all enjoy and love today!

Just a few of the other choices of Coca-Cola!

Coca-Cola has had quite a few different flavours over the years, some being discontinued, others still going strong! For example Coca-Cola Lime and Cherry are no longer offered in Canada, however they are still distributed in the United States.  Coca-Cola also has a less sugary alternative with their Diet and Zero Coca-Cola lines targeted mainly at those looking to enjoy the crisp taste of Coca-Cola without as much of the sugary downsides.  


Next up is Dr. Pepper!  Let's start things off with an interesting fact shall we!  Dr. Pepper is actually the oldest soft drink distributor in the United States, originating only one year before Coca-Cola in 1885.  Now believe it or not but "Dr. Pepper" was actually real! He was a native born Texan originating at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store.  Now you may be thinking Coca-Cola had an unusual upbringing, but wait until you hear Dr. Peppers, Charles Alderton was a young pharmacists working at the Old Corner Drug Store as his primary occupation, and on the side enjoyed mixing together different flavours and syrups to create different soft drinks.  He really enjoyed the way the store smelled with different fruity smells and scents, so one day he decided to create a soft drink that tasted the way that stored smelled, and after numerous attempts with different flavours and syrups, he finally succeeded in creating his masterpiece!

Despite Dr. Pepper not having the widest selection, they still manages to captivate their audience with the flavours they offer today, ranging from Cherry, Diet Cherry, Caffeine free and even a Diet Caffeine free!  By offering a healthier, less sugary alternative to every flavour they offer, they're able to keep up with other major soft drink brands that may offer more complex variations.  

Although there were some clear differentiations between the two soft drinks, I think it's safe to say they had more similarities than differences! They were both created by pharmacists, both within a year of each other, both are Dark Cola's, and they both offer a wide variety of diet alternatives to their main flavour line-ups.  I think it's safe to say these two are fairly tied when it comes to the facts, let me know which you prefer!
