Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper - Showdown of the century!

What could be more refreshing than a nice Cola on a scorching hot day? Not much compares right?

That's what Coca-Cola and Dr. Pepper were thinking when they decided to market themselves the way they do.  They recognized a need and desire belonging to their customer base, and addressed it expertly.

In this post I will be talking about the differences between Coca-Cola, and one of it's main competitors, Dr. Pepper.

First off I'll be talking about Coca-Cola.  This soft drink industry giant began in a pretty peculiar way; with the curiosity of a very inventive pharmacist back in 1886.  Dr. John S. Pemberton, an Atlantan pharmacist blended together a series of ingredients to come up with a flavoured syrup that he and some local pharmacists mixed with carbonated water, it was then deemed "excellent" by those who sampled it, it was then Pemberton had some input from his Bookkeeper Frank M. Robinson who is credited with coming up with the name, and infamous subscript still used in Coca-Cola's logo today, and thus creating the infamous Coca-Cola soft drink we all enjoy and love today!

Just a few of the other choices of Coca-Cola!

Coca-Cola has had quite a few different flavours over the years, some being discontinued, others still going strong! For example Coca-Cola Lime and Cherry are no longer offered in Canada, however they are still distributed in the United States.  Coca-Cola also has a less sugary alternative with their Diet and Zero Coca-Cola lines targeted mainly at those looking to enjoy the crisp taste of Coca-Cola without as much of the sugary downsides.

Next up is Dr. Pepper!  Let's start things off with an interesting fact shall we!  Dr. Pepper is actually the oldest soft drink distributor in the United States, originating only one year before Coca-Cola in 1885.  Now believe it or not but "Dr. Pepper" was actually real! He was a native born Texan originating at Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store.  Now you may be thinking Coca-Cola had an unusual upbringing, but wait until you hear Dr. Peppers, Charles Alderton was a young pharmacists working at the Old Corner Drug Store as his primary occupation, and on the side enjoyed mixing together different flavours and syrups to create different soft drinks.  He really enjoyed the way the store smelled with different fruity smells and scents, so one day he decided to create a soft drink that tasted the way that stored smelled, and after numerous attempts with different flavours and syrups, he finally succeeded in creating his masterpiece!

Dr. Pepper's different selection of soft drink flavours

Despite Dr. Pepper not having the widest selection, they still manages to captivate their audience with the flavours they offer today, ranging from Cherry, Diet Cherry, Caffeine free and even a Diet Caffeine free!  By offering a healthier, less sugary alternative to every flavour they offer, they're able to keep up with other major soft drink brands that may offer more complex variations.

Although there were some clear differentiations between the two soft drinks, I think it's safe to say they had more similarities than differences! They were both created by pharmacists, both within a year of each other, both are Dark Cola's, and they both offer a wide variety of diet alternatives to their main flavour line-ups.  I think it's safe to say these two are fairly tied when it comes to the facts, let me know which you prefer!

Many flavours of Mountain Dew and Fanta!

Being adventurous is always kind of fun, interesting, and even exhilarating, whether you're planning to explore your city or climb a mountain! So why not be adventurous with flavours too!

Soft drink brands have many different type of drinks and, of course, many different flavours as well! And so we will be looking at which soft drink has the best options for your adventurous-self!
Mountain Dew - "Do the Dew"
The original formula of Mountain Dew was made in 1940 by Barney and Ally Hartman, Tennesse beverage bottlers! The formula, however, was reformulated by William H. "Bill" Jones of the Tip Corporation (based in Marion, Virginia) in 1961. And since 1964, Mountain  Dew has been a part of the Pepsi-Cola company, and is one of the top soft drinks in the industry!

Mountain Dew has many flavours to choose from!
Mountain Dew not only has the original Mountain Dew (Dewshine), but also a reformulated Mountain Dew consisting of the classic citrus flavour, along with flavours such as Baja Blast, Code Red, and Voltage. Mountain Dew also has a Energy drink (Kickstart).
Fanta - "More Fanta. Less Serious"
Fanta was invented due to importing difficulties of Coca-Cola syrup into Nazi Germany during the 2nd World War, and so, the head of Coca-Cola Deutschland, Max Kieth, decided to create this new product with ingredients are are available in Germany! the name "Fanta" is a result of the german translation for 'imagination' which is fantasie. Fanta is also now part of the top soft drinks in the industry!
Fanta's fruity blends!
Fanta seems to to keep their flavour selection small (yet fun), often filled with a fruity blend and natural flavours! This includes: Fanta Orange, Fanta Zero, Mango & Passion Fruit, and Apple & Sour Candy.

So! I think we have a winner here is...Mountain Dew! Though Fanta has a nice array of flavours, it does not compare to the amount of flavours Mountain Dew has which I think, makes it a little more adventurous than Fanta!

Poparrazzii Brands: Pepsi & Sprite

Imagine yourself in a hot summer day and all you want is something refreshing to battle the heat. What would be the best way to do this?

Are you thinking of what I'm thinking?

I think the best way to do this is through drinking ice-cold soft drinks! It's true that soft drinks would help us quench the thirst especially on a hot summer day however, how do we know which soft drinks to indulge on? Let's find out!

Pepsi started all the way from 1893 and its first name was "Brad's Drink." In 1898, it was renamed as Pepsi-Cola. Pepsi has been around for such a long time that it is one of the most popular and most successful competitors in the soft drink beverage industry and as well as the cola-type beverages. Its taglines and catchphrases consists of: "Every Generation Refreshes the World," "Summer Time is Pepsi Time," "The Best Drink Created Worldwide."
Pepsi features great selection of their products on their website.
Pepsi is a very refreshing drink with a distinct taste that has the perfect balance of sweetness and acidity. Everything about Pepsi makes it a great summer drink, or maybe an all-year-round drink rather!

What else besides Pepsi that can be a great summer drink or also an all-year-round drink? Let's take a look!

Sprite was created by Coca Cola back in 1959 in West Germany. It was made to compete with the similar product under PepsiCo, 7Up. Sprite, unlike Pepsi, belongs to the caffeine-free, clear, and lemon-lime type of beverage. Its tagline is "Obey Your Thirst" where it has been around for so long.
Sprite's homepage consists of an introductory video and the tagline "Obey Your Thirst."
Sprite has a bitterly, sweet, and citric side that has a great amount of fizz in it. What also makes Sprite great is the fact that it has lesser carbonated content than other lemon-lime type beverage. It makes it really easy to gulp in large amount! That makes it a great summer drink then!

In conclusion, Pepsi and Sprite are two different types of soft drinks, however both are very delicious and refreshing. I say that we shouldn't really compare these two as they are very different but let's just declare this as a tie! One would definitely enjoy both these drinks and it would certainly help them quench their thirst!

Until then! See you next time. Thanks for reading!
